A widespread power outage is affecting more than 50,000 customers in southeastern New Brunswick.

The power outage was first reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

NB Power says homes and businesses in more than two dozen communities are being impacted.

As of 9:30 p.m., there were more than 23,000 customers without power in Moncton, more than 12,500 in Dieppe, and more than 4,100 in Shediac.

In a tweet posted just before 9:40 p.m., NB Power said it is aware of a “significant outage” affecting southeastern New Brunswick.

“Crews are currently investigating, and we will update as more information becomes available,” said the utility.

There is no word yet at this point on what caused the outage or when electricity may be restored.
