Billions in uncashed cheques are sitting CRA’s accounts.
The CRA says those who have uncashed cheques will be getting notified in the coming year to claim their money.
Canada’s tax Agency said they will be sending out electronic notifications to 25 thousand Canadians this month alone, with another quarter million in November and again in May of 2023.
There’s about $1.4 billion dollars of uncashed cheques waiting to be claimed, some dating back to 1998.
The project to get Canadians back their money started in February of 2020, and has so far seen more than $800 million withdrawn from its coffers.
You can check your online CRA account to see if you have any unclaimed cheques with your name on them in the meantime.
