Our province’s response to the trade war with the United States appears to be resonating with New Brunswickers.
Premier Susan Holt has seen her approval rating climb to 60 per cent, according to an Angus Reid survey.
That is up from 54 per cent just three months ago and is the third-highest approval rating among Canadian premiers.
The Holt government responded to the trade war with a $162-million plan that will offer support to New Brunswickers and businesses affected by disruptions from tariffs.
However, the premier said they have no plan to use electricity exports as a weapon in response — a measure that Ontario had undertaken for a brief period.
Angus Reid said that “cooler heads” approach earned her approval from a majority in the province.
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey is the most approved-of premier in the country at 68 per cent — a 22 percentage point increase from three months ago.
Furey recently announced his resignation as premier but will stay on until a new Liberal leader is chosen.
Manitoba’s Wab Kinew is in second place at 65 per cent, while Nova Scotia’s Tim Houston is just behind Holt in fourth at 59 per cent.
