Suspect Arrested In Union Street Incident

Police in Saint John identified the suspect in a weapons-related incident in the uptown core on July 24th.

A large police response followed a report of a person yelling and pointing a handgun in the area of Wentworth and Union streets around 8 p.m.

The incident last more than four hours and resulted in traffic closures in the area.

Early Thursday morning, around 1:00 a.m., police arrested a 35-year-old man.

The arrest was prompted by a tip from the public.

He was held for a court appearance where he was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

The accused is due back in court on Monday.
