Northern NB MLA willing to step aside to get new party leader into Legislature sooner

A veteran member of New Brunswick’s Legislative Assembly says he’s willing to step down in order to trigger a byelection.

Bathurst-East-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore Liberal MLA Denis Landry says he’s willing to step aside to get his party’s newly-elected leader into the Legislature sooner so New Brunswickers can get to know her better.

Susan Holt was elected Leader of the NB Liberals over the weekend and is expected to lead the official Opposition into the next provincial election against the governing Progressive Conservatives led by Premier Blaine Higgs.

But Holt says she’s in no rush, and tells CBC she feels there’s work to be done to build the party’s foundation first.
