A 34-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Woodstock Provincial Court today for a bail hearing after an incident on Saturday involving a male armed with a knife.
The Woodstock Police Force say officers responded around 1:42 a.m. and posted on social media around 5:30 a.m. about an “ongoing police investigation” in the downtown area near the post office and library on Main Street.
In a press release today, police said responding members attempted to de-escalate the situation and have the man exit an apartment peacefully.
Several residents of nearby apartments were evacuated as a safety precaution, and a perimeter was set up before the Fredericton Police Force Emergency Response Team was requested and deployed.
Police say the man was “safely taken into custody” around 7 a.m. on Saturday without further incident, adding that he was also wanted for additional ongoing local police investigations.
